The Girl gets creative

It's half term this week, so I have my little lady at home. I LOVE school holidays. I love having The Girl at home with me.
Late yesterday afternoon/early she asked if she could turn the space under the stairs into a den.

All I keep under there is a large box for storing her shoes, and her bookbag for school. So yes, it was fine for her to play in.
Over the years the space under the stairs has changed. It used to be for storing dvd's in baskets, then The Girl came along and it was a great place to stash her rocking horse and pink race car.
Now it's the place for shoes and bookbags.
Balnkets covered the front, and she asked if I would put fairy lights inside for her. Of course! Fairy lights are always a vital ingredient to any room!

She was post bath & ready for bed, so excuse the haphazardness of her hair.
I saw this veiw a lot, as she spent time gathering bits and pieces to put inside!
Such a simple idea. She sat and had her tea in there last night. We've left everything in place, so she can play in there today too.

Actually, this reminded me of something I'd planned to do and not go around to doing (I seem to type that phrase a lot). I'd seen on an episode of 'May the best house win' that a lady had turned the under stair space into a den for her daughter. It had wallpaper on the walls, and a fabric curtain to act as a door. I've tried to find photos of it online, but can't, so you'll have to take my word for it. It was so pretty. Just a teeny space, but so pretty. A little hideaway.

I planned to get some wallpaper and decorate the very back wall, then add in some fairy lights. If the girl spends as much time in her little den as she says she will, then I think I will do that for her. Pretty it up a bit.

It usually looks like this
so a bit or pretty added to it is no bad thing.

What a great idea! Can't wait to see the finishing touches both you and the girl will add to fix it up proper. xx

Aw what a sweet little corner indeed, I can totally picture myself going there as a little girl, and playing around for hours ! You're a great mama, my friend, and she's very lucky to have you, as much as you are to have her !

That is so so so cute!

I have made hundreds of dens in my life, from twigs and canvas to cushions and duvets. A den helps to give the child a sense of home and family.

I even made a den for a bit of a laugh a few weeks ago! And a few weeks before that with my niece!

Hope you and your girls are well, take care! X
